The Film Distributors’ Association today presented its annual FDA YEARBOOK 2022 with a breakfast launch at the NoMad hotel in London, attended by FDA member companies and cross-industry partners.
Now in its 20th year of publication, the Yearbook has become a valued source of statistical information and insight into the UK & Irish film market. The event was hosted by FDA Chief Executive Andy Leyshon, who introduced broadcaster, film critic and host of the Girls on Film podcast, Anna Smith, to launch the book.
The yearbook focuses primarily on data and analysis for the theatrical marketplace across 2021, covering early year lockdowns, mid-year reopening and the gangbusters Q4 results. Also included are reports on accessible cinema, COVID, film piracy, sector diversity, streaming and a round-up of the top worldwide box office markets.
Whilst COVID-related lockdowns kept screens shuttered across the territory until mid-May, 2021 saw significant sector recovery in the UK & Ireland theatrical business, with £597m in box office (an 85% increase on 2020’s low-water mark) generating 80m admissions and 497 new titles released into cinemas.
Comscore provided box office data for both UK & Ireland and Worldwide territories.
